Using the HandiWedge
The Handiwedge can be used either alone or in combination with the HandicareWendyLett and TurnSheet bed management systems.
HandiWedge will support the carer by maintaining the client in the desired position not only avoiding risk of injury associated with static postures but also
providing better access for the provision of care.
HandiWedge will also allow for multiple changes and slight adjustment of position and potential pressure points to assist with helping to avoid and reduce the incidence of pressure sores.
Furthermore, the Wedge will support re-positioning of the client. Slowly and gently move the HandiWedge back away from the client allowing them to follow the movement backwards.
This can be done several times until the client is lying on their back again. This facilitates frequent re-positioning, shortens the work time and load.
More frequent re-positioning changes the clients pressure points, allows increased blood flow, and minimizes risk of pressure sores. It is recommended to have some textile material between the client and the HandiWedge non slip material to avoid friction against the skin.
The HandiWedge is positioned against the back or sacral area of the client after positioning the client on to their side. This will support and maintain them in
the desired position, avoid static posture and give better access for caregiving.
